Graphic Design:
Park Hill School District
The Challenge
The Academic Services team in the Park Hill School District in Kansas City, Mo., sought to share the innovative work they were doing to prepare students for their futures. They also wanted to help students select high-school courses that would prepare them for the career they wanted after high school or college. The district partnered with CESO Communications for ongoing communications support, starting with these projects: a career planning guide and a future ready brochure.
Our approach
Park Hill already had a head start on writing for both pieces. The CESO team’s role was to edit their words and bring them to life with visually interesting products that would assist students, families, staff and community members in navigating complex information.
Inspired by school supplies, the design for the career planning guide incorporated the classic composition notebook, tape accents, sticky notes, Polaroid-style photos and freehand lines, mimicking how a high school student might scribble and take notes as they plan their future. This guide featured information on the courses at Park Hill’s high schools that would set them on a path to achieve their specific goals.
Keeping in theme with the career planning guide, CESO designed the future ready brochure to look like a pocket folder with subject tabs and three-hole punches. The brochure provides convenient pockets in the front and back cover for additional materials, depending on what the Park Hill team wanted to share with a group. For example, the career planning guide fits neatly in the brochure pocket when Park Hill wants to share it with students and families.
CESO wanted to be very intentional about creating cohesive pieces that closely aligned with district brand while blending in a fun design that would feel approachable to students and adults alike. The CESO team also helped the district coordinate with a printer to deliver the finished products.
Our impact
The career planning guide was so popular with students and families that Park Hill needed to order additional copies from the printer. The guide and brochure offer a comprehensive overview of how Park Hill prepares students for their college or career dreams. These materials are easy to update and use year-after-year, and CESO is already updating the design for another year.
Park Hill School District continues to partner with CESO Communications for ongoing communications support, including surveys, program logos and more design projects.
